Spain Import Restrictions
In order to enter Spain, certain goods are subject to specific controls and, regardless of their value and quantity, they require the consent of Spain government, preferably, license must be obtained prior to passage through the customs, preventing the goods from being retained. On this page, you will see what kinds of items are prohibited from entering the Spain, and which items need special documentation before exporting to Spain.
Spain requires an import permit for many goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. Senders should determine import restrictions from Spanish authorities before posting:
- Animals and animal products
- Drugs and medicines
- Jewellery and precious objects
- Pharmaceutical products
- Plants and parts of plants.
For ECI and EPI articles going to Canary Islands or Equatorial Guinea EDN’s and export permits are required for:
- Kangaroo skins
- Crocodile skins
- Emu oil
- Fish oil
- Bunker oil
- Petroleum bases products
- Tobacco and tobacco products
- Any other alcohol including beer and spirits all volumes.
Commercial goods do not normally require an invoice.
Used clothing and other materials require a Certificate of Disinfection.
Plants and plant products require a Phytosanitary Certificate.
Some goods require a Certificate of Origin.
For ECI and EPI articles going to Canary Islands or Equatorial Guinea the sender and receiver details must be addressed with a valid street address in English. A Post Office Box address is not acceptable.
The sender is responsible for finding if the destination country may impose duties, taxes, brokerage fees or any other fees that may be applied on the item that is being sent. In addition to items prohibited by Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging Post Guide and ECI International Courier Regulations, Spain prohibits:
- Cotton seed
- Foodstuffs containing saccharine
- Lottery tickets
- Mushrooms and microbes, cultures of
- Playing cards
- Religious relics and objects, such as rosaries
Spain prohibits weapons of whatever type or category, including firearms, and all components of weapons.
