History

In the early ninth century BC, the Phoenicians in the Gulf Coast established the Tunisian city of Carthage, and later developed it into a slavery power. In 146 BC came the Roman Empire Afrikaans province. In the fifth and sixth centuries it was occupied by the Vandals and the Byzantines. In 705, it was conquered by the Arab Muslims. In the 13th century, the Gong Ji and Hafs dynasties established a strong country. In 1574, it became a province of the Turkish Ottoman Empire. In 1881, it became a French protectorate. On March 20, 1956, the French recognized the independence of Tunisia. On July 25, 1957, the Constituent Assembly suddenly adopted a resolution to depose the king and announced the establishment of the Republic of Tunisia.

Economic and Cultural Customs

Salt Lake is the largest town in the southwest Jerry salt marsh. Tunisia has more than 4,000 million olives and an annual output of more than 20 million tons of olive oil, making it Africa's largest olive oil producer and exporter. The main agricultural products are wheat, beans, olives and grapes. Livestock farming with cattle and sheep support the camel industry. Other industries include oil and phosphate mining, manufacturing and processing industries and carpet weaving.

The Tunisia national art museum is in possession of a treasure of mosaics, in which "the victory of Neptune" is the world's oldest mosaic, some 5,500 years old. Islam is the state religion. The central cities of Kairouan, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia's Mecca and Jerusalem, along with wheat, are known as the four holy sites of Islam.

Carthage Castle Ruins
