Import restrictions

Senders should determine import restrictions from Gabon authorities before posting:

  • Animal products
  • Articles of rubber
  • Anti-parasite products
  • Beverages and spirits
  • Books, brochures and newspapers; printed matter
  • Chemicals
  • Firearms
  • Medicines
  • Measuring Instruments
  • Natural or cultured pearls
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Plants and plant products
  • Precious stones and metals
  • Prepared foodstuffs
  • Tobacco
  • Television receivers

EDN’s and export permits are required for:

  • Kangaroo skins
  • Crocodile skins
  • Emu oil
  • Fish oil
  • Bunker oil
  • Coal
  • Petroleum bases products
  • Tobacco and tobacco products
  • Any other alcohol including beer and spirits all volumes.

Special documentation

Gabon requires an import permit for many goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. Most food-related items need a Phytosanitary Certificate.

The sender and receiver details must be addressed with a valid street address in English. A Post Office Box address is not acceptable.

The sender is responsible for finding if the destination country may impose duties, taxes, brokerage fees or any other fees that may be applied on the item that is being sent. Please contact the consulate office of the country you are sending to or contact the ECI customer contact centre on 1800 007 678.

Prohibitions

In addition to items prohibited by Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging Post Guide and ECI International Courier Regulations, Gabon prohibits:

  • Antiques
  • Arms and ammunition
  • Beverages
  • Coffee and tea
  • Cereal
  • Deeds
  • Drugs, non-prescription
  • Edible fruit, nuts, seeds and vegetables
  • Fish and crustaceans
  • Fertilizers
  • Furniture, bedding, mattresses, stuffed furnishings, lamps, light fittings etc
  • Foodstuffs
  • Furs, skin and artificial fus
  • Gambling machines
  • Ivory
  • Inorganic chemicals
  • Live animals, or products of animal origin, including oils, fats, skin and feathers
  • Minerals
  • Products of the milling industry
  • Pirated editions of books
  • Precious metals and stones
  • Resins and other vegetable saps and extracts
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery
  • Toys, games and sport requisites
  • Tobacco and tobacco products.
